Today I have been researching the best music magazines and trying to figure out what makes them the 'best' in the industry.
The above link gives a list of the top 10 music magazines, with a brief description of what readers may find in the magazine and also how many issues they publish per year.
It was no surprise to me that Billboard Magazine was number 1, as their name is known worldwide due to their music charts. However, what did surprise me was that a niche magazine, such as Electronic Musician Magazine came second place.
Billboard have 51 issues every year, whereas EMM only publish 12 per year. This is obviously because Billboard is a weekly magazine, whereas EMM is only monthly, therefore Billboard's name is constantly on the magazine racks with their latest issue with exclusive information.
This may be because Billboard have lots of information to give to their readers, whereas EMM may only have enough information every 4 weeks i.e. if they issued their magazines weekly, there would not be enough information in it, and readers may stop buying their magazine due to feeling that they have been cheated of information.
